The reports included 1 murder, 7 rapes, 59 robberies, 65 assaults, 358 burglaries and 27 bias crimes (highest rates in the county); 578 incidents of domestic violence (second rate in the county), and 84 cases of police force.
Neptune - New Jersey Township Info
Neptune Township was incorporated in 1879 from portions of Ocean Township. In 1881 and 1893, portions were taken to form Neptune City and Bradley Beach. Neptune stretches from the Atlantic Ocean in the west to the Garden State Parkway in the east. The southern and northern boundaries are the Shark River estuary and Asbury Park City and Ocean Township. Its total area, as per the Census Bureau, is 8.8 square miles, 6.16% of which is water.
There were 27,935 residents, as of the 2010 census, up from 27,690 in 2000. There were 6,805 families and 12,217 housing units in 2000. Unofficial 2008 estimates place the median house or condo value at $296,839 (versus $136,700 in 2000).
As per the 2000 census, the median family income was $57,735 and the per capita income $22,569. Male median income was approximately 36% higher than that of females ($42,920 versus $31,057). The median household income was $46,250. It rose to a $59,024 as of a 2008 unofficial estimate. About 11.7% of the population was below the poverty line.
The major ancestries are Italian (12.8%), Irish (12.0%), German (7.5%), English (5.9%), American (4.5%), Polish (2.1%), and Jamaican (1.9%). The ethnic composition as of the 2000 census was 55.92% White, 38.16% African American, 5.55% Hispanic or Latino of any race, and 1.17% Asian. The most usual birthplaces of foreign-born are Haiti (16%), Jamaica (15%), Mexico (11%), Philippines (5%), United Kingdom (4%), Italy (4%), and Germany (3%).
Out of the 10,907 households registered in the 2000 census, 26.3% had minors living with them. About 43% were of married couples living together. Households made up of non-families and of individuals were 37.6% and 31.5%. Almost 16% had a female householder with no husband present.
As of the 2000 census, the median age was 39 years. The age breakdown was 23.1% under 18, 29.7% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 16.8% 65 or older. For every 100 adult females, there were 82.0 adult males.
The 2010 data for highest educational level of residents age 25 and over reveal that 11.70% did not complete high school versus 36.30% who did. Those with some college or associate's degree represented 27.72%. Holders of a bachelor's degree were 18.30% versus 20.65% statewide. Those with a graduate degree were 8.37% versus 12.05% statewide.
Males engage in construction and public administration (10% each), and professional, scientific, and technical services (6%). Females work in health care (19%), and educational services (14%).
Neptune is home to Jersey Shore Medical Center, a university hospital affiliated to the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. It is outstanding for cardiac care and is on the forefront of cancer research and women's health.
